In the midst of it all, in the
midst of confusion, of deadlines, of fear, of obligations, Purpose still
waits. The Muse still waits,
patiently. What is important, really
important, the most important to you? If you aren’t sure, look at how you spend your
time. If you don’t like the
answer, spend your time differently.
“You
don’t understand,” you protest.
“You don’t know all the commitments I have. You don’t understand how limited I am by the past, by my
children, by my finances, by my ADHD, by my job, by my income or lack of
income, my marriage, my divorce, my health…my life!”
I don’t
understand.
And I do
understand.
I don’t understand
because I’m not in your shoes.
You’re not giving excuses.
Your limitations are very real.
Yes, there are some people who give excuses. We all know them.
They say they want something, but when it comes down to it, they aren’t
willing to do what it takes. You,
however, are. But you have very
real limitations. I get it. I don’t know what it’s like to live
your life day after day, fighting your battles the way you do. I will say this: I’m impressed. You’ve managed to accomplish things
despite all your struggles. So I
believe you can go further. We all
have limitations. But we all have
potential, too. There are others
who have had the same limitations, and worse, and somehow they have
overcome. We look at these people
as giants or geniuses. They
weren’t. They were human,
imperfect, just like us. If they
seemed like geniuses or giants, it’s because they did what they had to do to
become those things. So though I don’t understand what you’re fighting, because
I’m not with you every day, I believe you can overcome it. You have before and you can again.
I also do
understand. Whatever list of
reasons you have for not striving towards your purpose, I assure you mine is
just as long, if not longer. This
might be a good place to commiserate, to share our troubles. Sometimes we need
that. But what I need more is to
do my work, as much as I can, as often as I can.
What I need to do,
what you need to do, is to Get Started and Keep Going…in the midst of it all.
