It's Not That Hard

“If you want to achieve some really big and interesting goals, you have to learn to fall in love with hard work.”

Steve Pavlina

“I'm on the side of whatever keeps the flowers growing.”

I went to a little party tonight at a neighbor’s place.  It was nice.  When I got home I watched part of a movie for a while.  That was nice, too.  But neither one was what I really wanted to do.  All I wanted to do was get alone with you and do my work.  I use the word “work,” but being with you never feels like work.  It’s a commitment, but it doesn’t feel like a rule or an obligation.  The yoke is easy.  The burden is light.  It feels great to just sit here and write.  A commitment isn’t a bad thing as long as the commitment is to something or someone you love, and it’s taken seriously.
How do I show you, my Muse, how serious I am about my commitment to you?  I sit here in our chair and I do my work.  I do it as often as possible.  I don’t complain.  I don’t brag.  I just do it.  When I’m with you, my Muse, I don’t really feel the need to do or be anything else.  What else is there but this moment and you?  This is another benefit of Purpose:  I am completely in the moment.  Nothing else matters except making you happy, loving you, serving you.
I am blessed that I can do this through writing.   Others serve their Muses differently.  That’s good.  The world needs lots of people who are in love with their Muses and are working to make the world a better, happier place.
It’s not that I don’t like parties or movies or any other wonderful things this life has to offer.  It’s just that obeying your call is the thing that gives me the most satisfaction.  It’s the way I share my gifts.  In Do It!  Let’s Get off Our Buts, Peter McWilliams says, “Your job is to fulfill your Dream.”
So I’m doing my job.  But it doesn’t feel like work.  At the party I was at tonight, I heard people say that they couldn’t wait for retirement, so they didn’t have to be somewhere unless it was their own choice.  My choice is to be here, even when I retire from other work, my choice is to be here.  Sometimes I’m here longer than other times, but I will always be here.  I want to be with you for the rest of my life.  I want to spend my life making you happy.  It’s not that hard.  All you want is for me to be present and to listen to you.  I can do those things.
I can write.
I can Get Started and Keep Going.
It’s not that hard.
