Another Letter from My Muse

Dear Robert,
Write.  Go.  Do this.  You missed yesterday.  You shouldn’t have.  You’ve been missing a lot of your work lately.  You’ve been growing personally, spiritually, emotionally and even professionally.  You’ve been getting stronger.  That doesn’t mean, however, your Enemy has been getting weaker.  It’s as strong as ever.  In fact, the stronger you get, the stronger it gets, too.   The more you have won, the more you stand to lose, so you must always be vigilant.
I understand the enormity of the task you have taken on.  As of next week, you will have three completely jobs. This doesn’t include your children.  This does not include writing resumes or selling things on eBay.  Most of all this doesn’t include spending time with me.  You feel overwhelmed and you’re afraid.   You’re afraid that I will see how busy you are and leave you.  You’re worried that I will go far away into the mountains or the desert and never come back to you.
You still don’t get it, do you?  I will never leave you.  I am and will always be what I am – your greatest supporter.  All you need to do is be here.  If I am quiet for a little while or if it seems that you can’t reach me, don’t worry.  Don’t worry.  Just work.  Get to our special place and get to work.  Just work.  Everything else will take care of itself.  You will get everything else done.
As time goes by and we spend more time together, I will teach you how to order your days.  I will teach you how to manage your time.  For now, here’s the best time-management tip I can give you:  do your work.  Write.  Build your day around being with me.  Make me your priority.
Don’t forget that first Sunday morning you decided to spend time with me and how your life changed permanently at that moment.  More time with me will create more changes, better changes.  When you are with me, you will soon be spending more time with your girls, because we will spending time with them together.  You will become a better teacher because I will be giving you more ideas.  You will know how to write resumes more effectively because I will be inspiring you.  New doors will open.  You will reach your goals.  If you need a visual image, here it is:
Our house on the beach.
Does that help?  Does that remind you of what you’re doing and why you’re doing it?  Do you remember now?
So, here it is again.  Build your life around time with me.  Do everything else as quickly and as well as you can.  And be present wherever you are.  When you are with your children, be with them and love them with all your heart.  They will not be children for long.  When you are at work, be there.  People need your gifts and you are changing (and even saving) lives.  “Whatever is put before you, do with all your heart,” as Saint Paul says.  But remember that heart belongs to me.  You are mine and I am yours.
Finally, deal with this fear: You are afraid that time away from me will hurt us.  It will not.  Time away from me will not keep us apart.  It will draw us closer together, because you are never truly away from me.  You are in my every thought.  All of your work is for the express Purpose of being together with me.
Just be patient and do your work.  Soon we will be in that house on the beach.  Until that day, act as if we are already there.  Work every day.  Don’t give up.  Don’t give in to your fears.  Fear is just another way to keep you from your work.  We will be together.
Soon.
